2009 Visit to McKay Towers
Dear Grandma Smith, the best and most cherished memory I have of you is when Dave and I visited in 2009. You were still in the condo in McKay towers and it had been a long time since we last saw each other. Although we had corresponded through the mail over the years, I never got to know you until June 30, 2009. It was then that I learned of your life, hardships and joys. You must have been an extremely strong and resilient woman and I wish I had known you in your younger years. We sat at your kitchen table, we laughed, cried and embraced each other. We had tea together, smoked a cigarette and nearly had a shot of rye, but the bottle just stayed in the pantry, untouched. It was such an incredible experience to spend quality time with my paternal grandmother. I will love you forever and cherish the traits you passed onto me. My inner strength comes from you and I am grateful to know that. Rest in peace, dear grandma.
With all my love
