Obituary for Margaret Rebecca Petrinchuk (Kewley)

Margaret Rebecca Kewley arrived on March 22nd, 1928 on a farm North of Tompkins, Saskatchewan. She moved with her family to Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan in 1933. Margaret attended school in Golden Glow for 6 Months at near 8 years of age, then to Spruce View (country school) until Grade 9. Margaret then, went to Porcupine Plain till her Graduation. Three days after graduation she went to Moose Jaw to begin Teachers College. She taught school for 25 years; the last 20 years in a Grade 1 room, where over 600 Grade 1's went through her room.
She was not remembered for her beautiful yard, nor her good cooking, or shopping sprees . She worked outside on the farm; in the fields when needed, to pick stones, roots, shovelling grain, milking cows, and other chores. Before moving to Porcupine Plain at the age of 5 one of her jobs was helping her mom gather “cow chips” for fuel for cooking.
Margaret, perhaps did some tasks that some of you would not have done, such as; unload the old diamond harrow from high wagon, and assembling it to a wooden draw, bar and then harrowing, walking behind 3 or 4 grudging horses, raking hay with a horse - drawn hay rake, ploughing with a gang-plow (2 furrow) drawn by horses., milking cows, doing your supplementary reading on horseback herding cattle. Getting sheep home from the bush and counting them.
She joined a few clubs, and in later years went to the skating rink where she spent many days watching her kids, grandchildren, and pupils playing hockey. She went on many bus trips with teams to see them play away from home. She also loved to dance. Margaret valued education and had 5 University classes.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents John and Doris, and her husband Stephen. Left to cherish their memory are Margaret and Stephen’s 3 children and a chosen daughter: Reg (Linda), Linda, Neil and Shelley. They were blessed with 10 grandchildren: Donald, Dwayne, Rodney, Amanda, Dustin, Kevin, Chris, Jason, Brett, and Troy; 9 great-grandchildren: Levi, Quinn, Reese, Samantha, Oscar, Kasha, Kenley, Kinnin, and Kova; along with numerous relatives and friends.
