Obituary for Sheridan Neil Lewis

Sheridan was born in Nokomis, SK on May 4th, 1933, to Arthur and Beatrice Lewis. He grew up with his one brother and six sisters in Carragana, SK. Straight out of school he taught at a one room school in Smokey Tent (Saskatchewan). The following year, he taught in Black Bear, SK. During this time, he boarded with Loewens. These teaching jobs were very difficult due to their isolated locations. The responsibility of the health and welfare of the kids was solely the responsibility of the teacher and due to the stress that it caused him, Sheridan chose to end his career as a teacher.
From there, Sheridan moved to The Pas, MB and worked at Scott National; at first in stock (for about 3-4 years) and then later in the warehouse and office for several years. During his time in The Pas, Sheridan also worked as a waiter/bouncer for the Gateway Hotel. It was at this time that he met his sweetheart, Mary Jebb.
Soon Sheridan was headed North to Churchill to earn money to save up for a wedding. He worked as a labourer at Mile 349 Bayline and 326 Gillam.
In 1959 (6 months later), Sheridan moved back to The Pas and he and Mary got married on January 19. After the wedding, Sheridan continued to work for some of his previous employers at Gateway Hotel and Scott National. He also drove taxi, and worked at the Cambrian.
In 1967, Sheridan and Mary moved to Hudson Bay, SK. There, he did some construction work until he snagged a good job at McMillan Bloedel where he worked for 27 yrs. During this time they grew into a nice little family. Over the years, throughout their lives, Sheridan and Mary took in many foster kids. The kids who knew Sheridan as “dad”, would count themselves blessed. He was an amazing inspiration to all of them.
After living on the farm in Viellardville for a number of years, they became empty nesters and moved to Bracken Dam in The Pas, Mb.
Sheridan spent about 4 years at Saint Pauls. Even through these difficult years, many people who met him, said that he was a real gentleman with a kind heart. Everyone who knows him agrees that this is true.
Sheridan was predeceased by his Father Arthur Lewis; Mother Beatrice Lewis; Daughters Diana Lewis, and Lynell Lewis; Father-in-law Adam Jebb; Mother-in-law Mary Jebb; Brothers-in-law Milton Reidt, Elijah Jebb, and Angus Cook.
Left to cherish Sheridan’s memory is his Wife Mary Lewis; Sons: Wesley (Lois) Lewis, and family, Alden Lewis, and family, Tim (Tina) Lewis, and family; Daughter Val (Louis) Leray, and family; Brother Grant (Joan) Lewis; Sisters: Ella Reidt, Carol (Leonard) Serdachney, Esther (Ed) Brezinski, Bev (Russel) Wasyliw, Alta Hamilton, and Roberta (Brian) Unseth; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Sheridan will be missed and treasured in our hearts. BLESSED IN THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE THE DEATH OF THE SAINTS.

My Home

My home was not a building that I lived in as a kid
And my shelter, not the roof over each wall
My comfort wasn’t heat that kept the warm inside
And forests weren’t sacrificed to build it all

The comfort was the love that I felt from my mom and dad
The sacrifices many they have known
They sheltered and protected me from this stormy world
For me - mom and dad—you were my home

And with these tools you gave us and the blueprints from the past
We do the work that we see you have done
We’re not building houses for you taught us to build homes
And because of you the building still goes on
