Obituary for Robert Langner

Robert (Bob) Langner was born June 8, 1933 at home on the family farm in the Attica area (NW-24-34-23W2) to parents Ernest & Emilia Langner. Bob attended the Sydenham Public School and in 1953 attended Musker Engineering in Winnipeg where he studied welding. In 1956 he returned to Winnipeg for a mechanic’s course and worked for various contractors over the years.
In 1962 Bob and Vivian (Paproski) were married in Estevan, SK. They resided in Oxbow until February of 1963 when they moved to Humboldt, SK. In August of 1963 they purchased a quarter of land near Lanigan, SK and lived there for 16 years. They can vividly remember the excitement on the farm when they got a telephone, running water, and a good road. They were blessed with four boys; Todd, Brent, Darren, and Wade.
Bob and Vivian were members of the Attica Community Centre and enjoyed being involved in the various activities there. Bob was also a member of the Attica Snowplow club and was an operator for five years. Bob’s favourite sports were baseball, hockey, and hunting. In later years curling and fishing also became favourite past times. His sons looked forward to their yearly school end trips when he would take them out to the East Trout Lake for a week of fishing.
Bob enjoyed farming and farmed alongside his brother Art and also helped his aunts and uncles that resided in the area. In addition to farming Bob worked at various carpentry jobs. In 1967 he worked on the construction at the Alwinsal Potash Mine at Guernsey. Bob had his own business named Langner Construction for many years. Among the bigger projects he undertook were a dairy barn for Wilf & Ruth Hein, the EZ-Wal Motel in Lanigan, and the Lutz house in Mistatim. He started renovating hotels and that work led to Bob and Vivian leaving the farm and buying a hotel in Mistatim, SK in July 1979. They sold the hotel in July 1985 and remained in Mistatim where Bob continued with his carpentry work.
Bob was predeceased by his parents Ernest & Emilia, sisters Freda (Albert Stobert), Margaret (Jim Bradford), brothers Eric & Art, brother-in-law Barry Lockwood, son Todd, and daughter-in-law Shelley.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years Vivian (Paproski), sons Brent, Darren (Twyla), and Wade (Melissa), grandchildren Nina & Jerad Hovan (great grandsons Connor and Jackson), Sean & Shelby, and Devin, sisters Erica, Gertrude (Sid Hunker), and sister-in-law Hilda.
"When I Must Leave You" by Helen Steiner Rice

When I must leave you
For a little while-
Please do not grieve
And shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you
Through the years,

But start out bravely
With a gallant smile;
And for my sake
And for my name
Live on and do
All things the same,

Feed not your lonliness
On empty days,
But fill each waking hour
In useful ways,

Reach out your hand
In comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you
And hold you near;

And never, never
Be afraid to die
For I am waiting for you in the sky!
