Obituary for Wayne Otto Pape

Wayne was born on his grandparents, Don, and Amelia Matheson's farm near Lewvan, Saskatchewan on May 19, 1941 to parents Gordon and Myrtle Pape. He was the second eldest of six children. He attended school in Lang and Truax, Saskatchewan where he loved playing baseball and hockey; the baseball team he played with won two provincial championships.
He trucked for his dad before moving to Estevan where he worked on the Ross Farm, surveyed for Midwest Surveys, and later worked in the oil field where he was injured and ended up in the Estevan hospital; this is where he met Joyce Leigh who was his nurse. He told people he was an "easy catch because he was on crutches", they were married on July 18, 1964 in the Anglican Church in Hudson Bay. Wayne and Joyce continued to live in Estevan while Wayne apprenticed under Bourquin Electric; he received his journeyman electrician papers in 1965. In 1967 Wayne, Joyce, and Shane moved to Hudson Bay where he started working at MacMillan Bloedel. A few years' later two daughters were born, Shawna and Shelly. Wayne played on the mills hockey team which Wayne was the captain of and he won the league scoring championship two years; the team also won the Red Deer Valley League Championship seven years in a row. In 1975 he worked at Sask forest Products. In1976 he started his own business, Wayne's Electric that he
owned and operated until 1990. He worked at Simpson Timber for the last six months that it was in operation. After the closure of his business and Simpson Timber he went out to Alberta to work for one year at Mastovich Lumber in Fox Creek. He then came back to Hudson Bay and worked at Sask Forest Products, where he worked until 2000, before transferring to the new Weyerhauser OSB mill where he worked until he retired in 2006. After a brief retirement he started Wayne's Electric again wiring up until he became ill.
Wayne was part of the Hudson Bay volunteer fire department; he was an elder and trustee of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and assisted Joyce in leading the youth group. He coached minor hockey and baseball and was an avid curler for a number of years.
Wayne loved to hunt, fish, camp, snowmobile and spend time with family and friends. He was one of the most patient, and kind people you would ever know, often putting others needs before his own.
Wayne is predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Myrtle, sister Lois and brother-in-law Bill.
He is survived by his wife Joyce, son Shane, (Pat), and their children Michael (Brittany), Kelly, Cody, Leigha; daughter Shawna, (Brian), and daughter Shelly, (Jon), and their children Caleb, Cassidy, and Bria. He is also survived by his sisters, Meryl, (Gerry), Sheryl (Raj), Bev (Harvey); brother Don (Pat) and numerous nieces and nephews.
