Obituary for
David Andrew Hugh "Andy" Fettis
In loving memory of David Andrew Hugh Fettis
Andy Fettis was born on August 5, 1925 on section 20-49-9, W2 on the Fettis homestead in the High Tor District to Dave and Margaret Fittes. Andy received his education at the High Tor school until he joined the Army.
Andy did his tour with the military in Europe and he spent an additional year in Holland. He then came back to the High Tor area and worked for E.V. Lanning as an equipment operator clearing and breaking land that many are farming today. He then moved to the Kamloops area where he married Olive Tower and worked as a mechanic at the saw mill before moving back to Porcupine Plain to farm in the Pei Wei district. Andy also started Fettis Transport Limited, hauling freight and groceries to Northern Saskatchewan. He operated this venture until his retirement.
Andy and Olive raised a family of five boys and one daughter; Robert (Darcy), Bradley (Josephine), David (Iris), Doug (Maryel), Tim and Sandra (Rick).
Andy was a lifelong member of the Royal Canadian Legion and he also served as a member of the RM of Porcupine Municipal council.
He was a man who loved to ride his three wheeler bike to check up on the boys and his land. He loved to visit with all of his family and friends but his greatest enjoyment was having his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on his knee or playing around him.
Andy always had a smile on his face, this trait was still present the day of his passing. His main concern was never to be a bother to others; he always put everyone else's needs ahead of his own.
Andy leaves to mourn his wife Olive; six children; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; his brothers: George (Fran) and Jim (Marilyn); sisters: Clara and Kathy; sister-in-law Mattie; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Dave and Margaret Fittes; his brother Stuart; sister Fran (Albert); sister Ruth (Bill); and brothers-in-law: Clayton and Lavern.
The family of Andy Fettis wish to express their gratitude for all the kindness and care that he received while he was in the Porcupine Carragana Hospital. They would also like to thank Dr. Pieterse and Dr. Olawumi and Staff for the wonderful care given to him.
