Obituary for Peter Donald Wasylyk

Peter Donald Wasylyk was born on January 2, 1923 to parents Ethel and Metro Wasylyk at their home in Wakaw, Saskatchewan. The family moved to their homestead in the Copeau district North of Carragana in the late 1920's where Peter took his limited education at the Copeau School. After his father's death in 1936 Peter worked full time on the family farm which also included doing some blacksmithing as well as custom land breaking and clearing in the area. In 1942 Peter enlisted in the Canadian Army and served his country overseas until his discharge in 1946.
Peter married Audrey Betty Doreen Banks on January 5, 1955 and together they raised 4 children, Judy Lynn, Robert Peter, Donald George and Gwendolyn Iris. Peter was a licensed mechanic and worked as such full time until 1960 when his farming career began. Still working part time as a mechanic and along with his wife Doreen, they continued to expand the farm until it was large enough for full time involvement.
Peter was a long time member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the B.P.O.E Elks while serving on the Somme Curling Club for some time. Peter enjoyed his baseball and curling in his younger years while coaching both ball and hockey within the community as time went on. He was an avid card player enjoying all types of challenging games including perfecting his poker face!!
Peter was predeceased by his mother Ethel and father Metro, Brothers: Jack, Matt, Greg, Bill, Michael, Stephard and Nick, as well as Sisters: Annette, Ethel and Helen.
Peter is survived by his wife Doreen of Tisdale, SK; Daughters: Judy Knighton of Langley, BC, and Gwen Marcil of Kamloops, BC; Sons: Bob (Cathy) Wasylyk, and Don Wasylyk both of Somme, SK; 3 Granddaughters: Kerry Marchuk (John) of Kelowna, BC, Nicole Wasylyk of Vancouver, BC, and Morgan Wasylyk of Kenosee Lake, SK; 3 Grandsons: Colin Wasylyk of Porcupine Plain, SK, Rylin Wasylyk (Hannah Fischer) of Flin Flon, MB, and Daniel Wasylyk (Akeyla Lenderbeck) also of Flin Flon, MB; 2 Great Grandsons: Kayden Wasylyk and Hunter Wasylyk; and 2 Great Granddaughters: Summer Wasylyk and Veda Wasylyk.
