Obituary for Leila Levern Logan (Wong)

Leila Logan (nee Wong) was born October 26th, 1931 in Kelvington, the 11th child of Oscar and Ellen Wong. She spent her childhood on a farm in the Farming dale area north of Kelvington and attended Manchester School. When she spoke of her childhood it was always of fond memories. She said they didn't have much in the way of material things but love, laughter, joy and music (something she loved all of her life - especially country music) abounded. One incident she often recounted was how her brother broke her nose when he accidentally stepped on her head. The small house was indeed crowded.
She and her family moved to Gainsborough for a brief period but she eventually ended up in Porcupine Plain with her sister Vera Logan. It was there while employed at the local hospital that she met the love of her life, Kenneth Logan. They married on November 7th, 1951 and moved to Gainsborough to help Leila's dad with his farm. Like all Logan men the allure of High Tor pulled them back in 1953. They purchased their own farm in 1967. Leila was in heaven when they finally moved into their new home in 1968. Imagine - running water, indoor plumbing and no wood stove!
Ken passed away November 28th, 1978. Leila and their unexpected blessing - Kent, continued living on the farm. When Kent married and left she continued living on her own in her home. Ill health and persistent pushing from her children (according to her) saw she move into a unit in Pioneer Court in 2008. The next step in her journey was to the Red Deer Nursing home in 2011 were she resided until her death.
Her greatest joy was her family. The times we spent together were filled with lots of laughter and fun and yes even some squabbling amongst her grandchildren. Us adults never squabbled - isn't that right everyone? The noise we made as we played games and cards and with all the children playing could be quite deafening. Mom took everything in her stride and always had time to make everyone's favourite - fresh bread and buns.
Leila enjoyed playing cards, gardening, reading, and curling, a houseful of company and gambling (yes gambling) and travelling when able. We , as her family thank those of you who made her trips possible.
Leila suffered through many hardships and losses but she always counted her blessings. Her door and her heart were always open to family and friends. She lived by the code that we have to care for each other. We as her family can only hope we can live up to her example.
Leila was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her parents Oscar and Ellen Wong, her siblings and two of her grandchildren Kristen Reiman and Pacen Logan. She is survived by her daughter Debbie (Don) Reiman, son Craig (Glenda) Logan, daughter Denise (Garvin) Todosichuk, son Neil (Cindy) Logan and son Kent (Kim) Logan; grandchildren Carla McBroom, Michael Reiman (partner Kristen), Paige , Carson (partner Micki) and Calla (partner Taylor); Jeffrey (Sonya) Todosichuk; Tenneille (Kelly) Wendel, Randelle (Keith) Agrey; Levi, Kamden and Cadence Logan; and her great grandchildren - Wyatt, Morgan and Madison McBroom, Kruz Wendel and Asher Agrey.
As her disease progressed she only wanted to go home and she would look at us with those sad mournful eyes when we would say "not today Mom". Finally she is home!
