Obituary for Mary Agnes "Aggie" Hodge (Marno)

Mary Agnes "Aggie" Hodge (Marno)
Mary Agnes Hodge, also known as Agnes, Aggie, Mom and Grama
Agnes (Marno) Hodge passed away peacefully at the Porcupine Carragana Union Hospital on Monday Oct 26th. She was born to John and Margaret Marno in Bethune, Sk on April 13th, 1918.
Her and her siblings stayed in Bethune with Uncle Will and Aunt Minnie while John went to Porcupine in 1929 to open a homestead. The kids joined him in 1930. Unbeknown to her, Porcupine then became her home for the next 85 years.
In 1934 she married Glen Hodge. She moved to his homestead where they raised Pat and Dale. After a couple of small moves they sold the homestead and purchased the current property that Agnes lived on until her passing.
Agnes has born a caregiver. Understanding hard times she always tried to help others anyway possible. Her and Glen took in children when it was difficult for the parent(s) to provide for them. They hosted students from the country who needed to attend school in town. Extended family could always stay with them for how ever long necessary. During all this support for the community, Agnes also worked as a nurse's aid in the Porcupine Carragana Union Hospital for 28 years.
After retiring she found even more time to spend on her grandchildren. Few of their trips were just the two of them. They would pack up the camper with supplies to be self-sufficient; a couple of grand or great grandkids and off they go. They usually knew where they were going, but not always certain when they would be back. It always depended who / what they met along the way.
As the grandkids got older the volunteer time went to teaching old tyme pattern dancing to those from 6 years old and upward. They were an asset to the Porcupine museum as volunteers and knowledge keepers.
During all of this she always kept up a fantastic yard and immaculate house.
At 97 years, Agnes lived through agriculture depressions, health outbreaks, world wars, financial hardtimes, pioneering, advancement of modern amenities, and many other things but one thing never ever changed in her core and that was she always had time for you and something to eat.
Agnes was predeceased by her Mother and Father, John and Margaret Marno, Husband Glen Hodge, Son Dale (Lorraine) Hodge, Great grandson Deryk McCabe, Grand daughter in law Marj Larwood, Her siblings and their spouses Edna (Albert) Bouchard , Lance (Evelyn) Marno, Lillian (Cal) Bray. Mabel (Oswald) Cameron, Bert (Louise) Hodge, Laura (Ralph) Wilson, Wilfred Hodge, Melvin (Beatrice) Hodge, Phyliss (John) Morrow, Iris (Alex) Bryson, Sally (George) Bailey, Art (Mary) Hodge. Yes Agnes was the last surviving member of this complete generation.
