Obituary for Thelman Claire Morvik

Thelman Claire Morvik of Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan, passed away in his slepp at the Porcupine Carragana hospital on Monday, May 25, 2015.
Thelman was born on April 14, 1946 in Gull Lake, Saskatchewan to Viola and Harold Morvik. The youngest of four children, he grew up with his parents and siblings on a farm south of Dollard, where he went to school before completing his education in the neighboring town of Eastend.
In 1970, he met Patricia Mae Guenther of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. The two were married on March 6, 1971 in Shaunavon. Their first son, Kory Allan Martin, was born on August 24, 1981, and joined the family in November. On May 21, 1991, they were proud to welcome Chad Owen into their lives.
Thelman was a member of the Shaunavon Elks Lodge, and enjoyed farming with his brothers in his younger years. He worked in the oil fields of southern Saskatchewan, and later owned a tire shop and worked as a John Deere salesman at Shaunavon Industries. In 1985, the family moved north to Mistatim, Saskatchewan, where Thelman and Pat bought the Mistatim Hotel. Years later, Thelman was a laborer and truck driver amidst the beautiful forests of the Hudson Bay area.
An avid and enthusiastic hunter, Thelman took pleasure in being in the outdoors with his friends and family. The first deer of both Kory and Chad were moments of great pride for him. He and his best friend, John Kupczynski, got in endless hunting adventures and loved sharing endless hunting stories. While in good health, Thelman also enjoyed fishing and camping, as well as taking things apart and putting them back together again. In moments of boredom, it was not uncommon for him to ask Pat or the boys to break something so that he could fix it.
Above all, Thelman loved his family. He spent his later years in poor health but always remained in good spirits and never lost his sense of humour. He will be remembered by all who loved him as a kind and gentle man. He will be remembered as a good man.
Thelman is predeceased by his father, Harold Morvik, mother Viola Morvik, brother-in-law Fred White, and nephew Stephen White.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, sons Kory and Chad (Teaghan), brothers Marvin (Kathy) and Lester (Heather), and sister Gloria White, father and mother-in-law Howard & Hannah Guenther, as well as sister-in-law Deb Lewis (Bruce), brothers-in-law Dwayne (Lee) and Darcy (Pearl), and many nieces and nephews and their children.
