Obituary for Gerard Joseph "Gerry" Langlois

Gerard (Gerry) Joseph Langlois was the eleventh child in a family of sixteen born to Ovide Langlois and Marie-Louise Lupien, October 31, 1918. Gerry was born on the family farm in Perigord where he spent most of his life. The farm was the homestead that Ovide had acquired and farmed, when Ovide decided to sell the farm and move into Perigord, Gerry and brother Donat bought the property and took over the farm. Gerry never married but lived with Donat and Jean and five children. Uncle Gerry was like a second dad to the five kids he called his family.
At the end of World War 2, Gerry was called to duty and went to Regina for training. He would say the only thing he learned was to March, which he liked to demonstrate, and peel potatoes. When discharged at the end of the war, he returned to the farm, the place loved the best.
In 1985 Jean passed away and Gerry farmed and looked after Donat who was now confined to a wheelchair. Then Donat passed away in 1987, Gerry was left alone on the farm.
The days and nights were long and lonely for Gerry so he decided he wanted to learn to dance, sadly he had two left feet but enjoyed himself never the less. Gerry had wonderful neighbours and friends that looked in on him and helped him out when needed. Gerry was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
In 1999 Gerry put in his last crop, now 81 years old. That fall he decided to quit farming, he said he was getting too old. Gerry spent the winter on the farm that year but the following fall, with a little encouragement from niece Maddie, Gerry decided to move to Rose Valley and spend the winter in the Community Spirit Manor, but only for the winter he said. Well spring arrived and Gerry was quite comfortable where he was and said the food was really good. Gerry decided he liked the care and attention he was getting so he called the Manor his home.
With health issues and dementia affecting his life in the Manor, the decision was made to move into a long term facility, so in February of 2011, Gerry was placed in the long term care home in Hudson Bay for several months and then moved to Kelvindell Logde in Kelvington in May where he spent the remainder of his life.
Gerry was predeceased by all siblings except for one, Sister Therese Langlois who resides in a Grey Nuns retirement home in Edmonton.
Gerry passed away December 27, 2014 and is now where he was longing to be.
Rest in peace Gerry.
