Obituary for W. John Davis

John was born on June 17th, 1957 in Spalding SK to Jack and Anna Davis. He grew up on the family farm just east of Quill Lake, SK. John attended post-secondary education at STI in Moose Jaw, SK obtaining his certificate in radio and television communications.
John married Andrea Sawchyn of Rose Valley, SK on July 21, 1979. They made their home and started a family in Hudson Bay, SK where he first worked as a TV technician at Family Furniture. He then started Davis Electronics, a satellite service and installation company before opening Dollarz Fine Furniture. John and Andrea were blessed with three children, Amber, Janine, and Derek.
John and his father were forever redesigning the “family” pontoon boat until finally in 1993, he decided to pursue their dream of designing and building the perfect pontoon, one that would withstand the rocks of the northern lakes. This led to the founding of Jaddco Inc., a rotational plastics and manufacturing plant. Through Jaddco, John’s love of inventing and innovating new products grew.
Some of his major accomplishments were the patenting of his unique polyethylene pontoon system in 1996, and the design of many recreational products including ATV boxes (which were featured in the Cabella’s catalogue for years), the Snowtracker II snowmobile sleigh, and most recently his boat lifts. John made many friends through his time spent with the SERM fire crew, playing Old Bulls Hockey, his Jaddco family, clearing trails, fishing, hunting, camping, and anything outdoors. His door was always open and his many friends were always welcome to stop in for happy hour. John was always willing to lend a hand, nothing too big or too small, especially when it came to his friends and family.
As a husband, father, and granddad, he was open with his love, always making sure to end a conversation with a hug, a kiss and an “I love you”. His true passion was his family, telling everyone he met that he had seven grandsons and was constantly asking, “when are you coming home?” He was a Jack of all trades, a mad inventor, and master toy repair man…no matter what happened, “Granddad will fix it!”. Whatother man do you know that has built his family home with his chainsaw, built his own boats, put toggle switches on broken monster trucks, could blow up anything (and would do so on a regular basis), and dream up and execute elaborate pranks (which often involved some sort of explosive or electrical device)?
The past five years, he was happiest when he was spending time with or doing something for his kids, sons and daughter-in-laws (whom he loved as his own) and grandsons. He was a determined man with a huge and gentle heart. He will be immensely missed and will forever be in our hearts.
John is predeceased by brothers, Donald and George Davis, his sister Margaret Bates, brother-in-law Kevin Meiklejohn, and father Jack Davis.
John leaves to morn his wife of 35 years, Andrea, daughter Amber (Tom) Barrie and children Nate and Lucas, daughter Janine (Mark) Kefford and children Andy, Emmett, and Fletcher, son Derek (Darcie) Davis and children Jack and Kenton, mother Anna Davis, brother-in-law Lyle Bates, sister Barb (Rob) Longmuir, Jane Meiklejohn, Garth (Lisa) Davis, and many nieces and nephews. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Hudson Bay Health Care Facility or the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.
